Meshell Ndegeocello’s masterful new album was released this week “The Omnichord Real Book“. Her debut album for Blue Note is soulful, jazzy, and calming with a touch of vibrancy.

Meshell said in a statement, “This album is about the way we see old things in new ways.” When my parents passed away, everything happened so quickly. radically altered my perspective on everything and myself. I found my first Real Book, the one my father gave me, as I went through the remnants of their life together. I took their records, which I had learned, remembered, and heard growing up. I carry the sadness that characterized her experience, which in turn calls me to disappear into my imagination and listen to the music because my mother gave me her pain.
