Video: J. Cole - ATM

J. Cole’s recently released music video for the song “ATM” serves as the official launch of the first visual from his most recent album, KOD.

The song’s lyrics and the music video both address the problems with capitalism in American society. In the video, Cole plays a man who literally pays an arm and a leg for a flashy new car, which ultimately leads to his downfall.

Cole appears to be flying through the sky on a throne in the beginning of the Scott Lazer-directed music video, followed immediately by many kids floating on enormous pill bottles. This gives “Kids On Drugs,” one of the meanings of the acronym for the title, a realistic portrayal.

The Dreamville can be seen elsewhere in the vibrant image. Rapper is held by a strait jacket in a padded chamber constructed solely of $100 bills, and later, while losing his money at the casino, he is surrounded by a plethora of attractive women.

If that was one of the aims, we’re really liking this vivid homage to the Hype Williams and Busta Rhymes-directed MV. The video has some strong “Gimme Some More” vibes.
