Alex Isley & Ernie Isley – Brown Eyed Girl

In 2022, when Vibe spoke with Alex Isley for their Lineage series, she mentioned the possibility of working musically with her father in the future. I don’t know when or how that would happen, but naturally, my dad and I have talked a lot about making things together. Ideally, that will occur in the near future.

It is now time. For their first collaboration, she and Ernie Isley have reworked the Isley Brothers classic “Brown Eyed Girl.” The band’s 1974 album Live It Up included a lengthy version of the original song.

The cover was introduced by Soulection and matched with a live exhibition. Alex teased it for the first time on Instagram on Tuesday, June 13, writing, “Something special with my favorite songwriter, my Dad.” My father and I have never recorded together before. I am grateful to your father for the lovely lyrics and music that he wrote for you and your brothers many years ago.
