Shakira, a Colombian singer, released her third studio album, Pies Descalzos (translates to “Bare Feet”), on October 6, 1995 through Sony Music Colombia. Its music experiments with pop rock elements while incorporating Latin pop genres.

After the box office disappointments of her first two studio releases, Magia and Peligro, she took a leading role in its production in an attempt to revitalise her flagging career. Each of the eleven tracks on the album, which Luis Fernando Ochoa executive produced, was co-written and co-produced with Shakira.
