American singer Miley Cyrus‘ fourth studio album, Bangerz, was released on September 30, 2013, by RCA Records. Instead of concentrating on her acting career as she had originally intended, Cyrus decided to relaunch her musical career and started preparing the project in the middle of 2012. 2013 saw more work once she signed with RCA Records. Bangerz, which Cyrus describes as “dirty south hip-hop,” is a musical departure from her earlier work, from which she had come to feel “disconnected.” Cyrus and Mike Will Made It worked with hip-hop producers such Pharrell Williams, Oren Yoel, Rami Samir Afuni, Dr. Luke, and Michael McHenry as executive producers. Their efforts produced a record that is predominantly pop and R&B with lyrics that are largely about romance. Rappers Big Sean, French Montana, Future, Ludacris, and Nelly, as well as pop singer Britney Spears, contribute vocals as guests. Twelve of the sixteen tunes were co-written by Cyrus.
