On Wednesday (June 21), Kali Uchis released the music video for her song “Tyrant,” which also features Jorja Smith. She was not going to allow anybody else miss it either, as evidenced by the fact that she tweeted warning postings notifying her followers of the exact moment of the official release and retweeted the uncontainable enthusiasm expressed by her supporters.
In an effort to convey the sentiment expressed in the song’s opening line, “All I hear is sirens, in a world so violent,” the accompanying visuals begin with a close-up shot of the Colombian diva who resembles a porcelain doll. Red and blue lights flash in rapid succession. The singer of “Only Girl” challenges the power-infused intents of her significant other while dressed in what can be best characterised as sexy, futuristic first lady vibes in a powder pink, shoulder-blade suit, classy gold hoops, and accented with pulled-back and teased hair.
Through a series of kaleidoscopic scene shifts that mimic the lyrics of the hook, the Por Vida performer is shown in a variety of settings, either posing on top of, sitting next to, or whining next to classic oldies automobiles.
Jorja Smith, wearing a bandana, makes her entrance on her version of the song after another verse and a run through of the chorus. On her version of the song, she performs whimsical lines against dreamy backdrops.
